Seminars & Lectures

Whether your need is for an extra activity during your convention, a professional seminar, or a guest lecturer for your class, I am ready to assist. I will customize my presentation to your topic or activity. I have years of experience when it comes to speaking in front of a group and planning educational activities.

Here are only a few examples of the types of presentations I can customize to your needs:

  • Seminars, or classes on all aspects of the craft of writing. The craft of writing is described as the basic elements that make our stories readable. It consists of strategies such as plot, characterization, dialogue, pacing, dramatic structure, and point of view.
  • Prompting classes to explore the writer within. Each participant will choose a prompt that speaks to them. They will take that prompt and turn it into a story, essay, or even a poem. Participants will be encouraged to read their stories to the group, allowing for immediate (friendly) feedback. Lecture and discussion on one or more elements of craft will help each of the participants refine their story to professional standards.
  • Lectures on current trends in writing when it comes to marginalized voices and characters. How do you write your story and ensure that both you and your characters are correctly represented? Is it okay for a non-marginalized writer to write in characters whose race, sexuality, or sex is not their own? Will a publisher be as interested in the novel that includes a prominent LGBTQ character, as they would if the protagonist was straight?

Each class, seminar, or lecture will be customized to your target audience. Some examples of these types of audiences might be: writing professionals, seniors, grammar or high school students, prisoners, corporate professionals and or their significant others, highly educated individuals seeking an understanding of the craft of writing, etc.
